The Most Famous Engagement Rings.

9 Oct

They say love doesn´t cost a thing but that´s not always the case… I´m sure these ladies would have still have said “Yes, I will” when presented with a ring of lesser value, but I also imagine they´re not complaining about the one they got! The size of a diamond is not necessarily the key as to what makes some of these rings so famous and recognizable, they are made famous and seem even more fabulous because of the celebrities or royalty who wear them.. Here´s a list of some of the best-known:

 – Queen Elizabeth II; Her Mayesty´s engagement ring from Prince Phillip that was made from diamonds from his mother’s tiara.
Lady Diana; She chose an oval sapphire of the bluish hue from a selection. It was an 18-carat engagement ring with 14 smaller diamonds on the side, forming an elegant and very elaborate setting, costing $65,000. To date, this is the most copied ring in history. This was the ring her son, Prince William, presented to Kate Middleton on their engagement.
Elizabeth Taylor; She received a 30 carat emerald-cut diamond from Michael Todd, her third husband. However, she was more famous for her other pieces of jewelry such as a Krupp diamond of 39 carats, the Taylor-Burton pear-shaped diamond of 69.42 carats, and the heart-shaped 17th century Taj Mahal diamond.
Grace Kelly; Prince Ranier III of Monaco gave Kelly two rings. First was a Cartier eternity band of diamonds and rubies. However, when he visited her in the US, he realized how big the diamonds were in that country so he had one made, a 12-carat emerald-cut diamond with a $600,00 price tag decades ago. Today, this is probably worth around $2 million.
Priscilla Presley; Elvis gave her a diamond engagement ring of 3.5 carats, circled by diamond chips and 21 small diamonds.
Jaqueline Kennedy; It was 2.88 carat diamond mounted next to a 2.84 carat emerald and tapering baguettes. The ring was reset with round diamonds, totaling 0.66 carat, and marquise diamonds, totaling 1.46 carats costing $750,00 back in the day.
Katie Holmes; Her ring was a $275,00 five carat oval-shaped diamond set in platinum and rose gold with an intricate pave setting.
Jennifer Lopez; Ben Affleck offered Jennifer the 6.5 carat plush pink heart-shaped diamond. Only one out of 10,000 diamonds will possesthis natural color. She gave it back when they broke off their engagement and he sold it back to the seller for half it´s $2,000,000 price.

Catherine Zeta Jones; Michael Douglas sealed their engagement with a beautiful antique marquise diamond of 10 carats with a horizontal set, worth $2 million.

Joan Collins; She received a heart-shaped diamond ring made in the 19th century from Percy Gibson, her husband.

Madonna; Some celebrities settle for a three-stone engagement ring to represent past, present, and future. This Material Girl received a three-stone antique exquisite Edwardian diamond ring with a decorative platinum band from Guy Ritchie.
Sharon Stone; Phil Bronstein presented her with three emerald-cut diamonds in a 3 1/2 carat ring.

Paris Hilton; The famous diva was engaged to billionaire Paris Latsis with two famous engagement rings: a canary diamond ring of 24 carats worth $5 million and a white emerald-cut diamond ring of 15 carats worth $2.1 million.

Britney Spears; She also has two engagement rings: a cushion-cut diamond ring of 4 carats worth $40,000 bought by herself (!) before her wedding and another one presented by her husband Kevin Federline, nine months after their marriage. You can see where there is a before and an after in his “earnings” here…

Toni Braxton; The singer received a stunning and beautiful three-stone 4.5 carat diamond ring from Keri Lewis. It has two heart-shaped diamonds on each side and an oval-shaped stone center.
Christina Aguilera;  She became engaged to Jordan Bratman after he presented a $54,000 20-carat diamond engagement ring.

Camilla Parker Bowles; The antique platinum ring she received has an emerald-cut center diamond with three diamond baguettes on each side. This ring originally belonged to the Queen Mother and is believed to be valued at over $1 million.

Since few people can afford the original item, there is a massive market for replicas of these one of a kind diamond engagement rings. The quality of the replicas varies depending on the price tag, of course… I think giving or receiving engagement rings is a great way of showing that you are in love and ready to make a commitment to the other person so bring them on any shape, size or price! 🙂
