Summer Weddings

27 Jun

The summer is almost as popular as spring wedding-wise, especially in the north of Europe, and it´s no surprise as the possibilities colour, food and flower wise are endless! Here are a few of my favourite wedding touches:

– Summer is the best time to celebrate an outdoor wedding, drape the palm trees in fairy lights for a beautiful evening beach wedding or hang starry bundles of lights wrapped in and out of wicker balls or string glass candle lanterns filled with a thick layer of fresh, fragrant rose petals to provide a dreamy atmosphere at an evening garden reception.

– Any color looks fantastic at a summer wedding, especially the bright ones! A block color such as red, yellow, orange or purple look great against a white backdrop, or why not try tempering all of the daring hues with a earth-toned background?

Buying local flowers is the way to go, remember, blooms that are in season in your area will more likely survive a long day in a bouquet. This could range from Orchids, Peonies and Roses, to more exotic flowers such as Nigella, Celosia and Lillies. If you want a totally different bouquet, try one made with seashells for an original summer look.

For your wedding dress, choose a light fabric that breathes, such as silk, organza, linen, chiffon, or crepe and opt for shorter skirts. If you can’t resist the heavy traditional ball gown, wear it during the ceremony and then change into an elegant sheath for the reception. I also love the idea of butterfly or flower patterned heels!  Grooms look better in lighter suits in greys and creams in summer too.

– Provide heat relief for your guests. Make sure an outdoor venue offers some shade or air-conditioning, before the ceremony have an usher pass out small ice-cold hand towels across the rows, scatter decorative tubs or baskets filled with bottles of water and sunscreen near the ceremony site.

– Lighter fare works at summer weddings, and buffets are ideal. Sesame seed-spiked macaroons with a center of smoked salmon, shallots, and creme fraiche and shots of gazpacho served in carved-out cucumber cups for starters, fresh seafood or a barbecue combined with seasonal fruit and veg for the main meal and mini sorbet wedding cakes or wine smoothies for dessert.

– Use fresh fruits and vegetables for your centerpieces such as satsumas and cumquats in your flower arrangements, or simply fill a large vase with bright yellow lemons or ripe tomatoes. Shell butterflies also make perfect accents scattered on a table as decorations.

– Pick a wedding cake that summons a taste of summer with in-season berries and fruits and consider offering a summer-inspired side with your cake such as ice cream or a handful of chocolate-covered strawberries.

– Classic summer favors like flip-flops or fans are always a good gift for your guests, but if you want something different, how about edible cookie bags with fruit and candy inside?

– Original little touches: During the reception, adults can help themselves at a snow cone station stocked with cups, crushed ice, and mojito, peach daiquiri, cosmo, and margarita cocktail syrups, or at a ‘grown up’ ice cream stand with alcoholic ice cream floats, it´s sure to be a wedding to be remembered!

Basically just make sure your guests (and yourself!) don´t get too hot and enjoy all that summer brings to a great celebration 🙂

Matthew McConaughey Marries Camila Alves

13 Jun

Matthew McConaughey is now a married man!

The actor wed the mother of his two children, Camila Alves, in an intimate Saturday evening ceremony. The couple, who got engaged last Christmas Day after almost five years together, tied the knot in front of their close friends and family at their Austin, Texas property. Camila has taken Matthew’s surname and has officially become Camila McConaughey.

McConaughey, 42, and Alves, 29, a Brazilian model and designer who the actor has told PEOPLE is “the love of my life,” kept mum about the wedding, even to some guests, until the last minute.

Matthew wore a three-piece black tuxedo by Dolce & Gabanna and Camila wore a gown by a Brazilian designer. They whispered their wedding vows into each others ears; “No one knows what they said, but you could tell it was emotional because she was teary-eyed,” a source told UsWeekly. The couple also forwent traditional wedding pastimes in favor of lawn games (like beanbag and ring toss), a dessert table instead of a cake, and a feast of Southern classics like “crawfish, brisket and fried okra” cooked up celebrity chef Guy Fieri.

Among the guests were their children Levi, three, and two-year-old Vida, along with celebs including Reese Witherspoon, Jim Toth, John Cougar Mellencamp, Meg Ryan and Woody Harrelson, who stayed in air conditioned tents in the grounds of the Texas property ahead of the ceremony.

Matthew has been seen out and about yesterday flashing his wedding ring.

Jessica Simpson Planning Wedding for the 12/12/12?

8 Jun

According to a recent US magazine report, the singer is planning to marry fiancé Eric Johnson on the 12-12-12. The couple welcomed their first child together, a baby girl named Maxwell Drew, on the 1st of May.

Former NFL player, Eric Johnson, proposed to singer Jessica Simpson in November 2010. The couple were said to be planning their wedding for last November, however decided to postpone the big day until after the arrival of their baby.

Now their baby girl has arrived, 31-year-old Jessica has apparently wasted no time in setting her wedding plans into action. The bride-to-be is understood to have enlisted the services of celebrity party planner, Mindy Weiss, to help her plan her wedding to Eric in December. The celeb party planner has worked with Jessica in the past and coordinated her first marriage to Nick Lachey in 2002 and also her baby shower a few months ago.

Apparenly, Jessica and Eric are planning a low key wedding with around 60 guests in an informal beach ceremony on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

It will be the second marriage for both Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson as the sportsman was previously married to Keri Johnson for five years before filing for divorce in 2010, while the actress and singer was married to former boyband member, Nick Lachey, for three years until 2005.
