George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin´s Wedding

1 Oct

The eternal bachelor, George Clooney, and his lawyer love, Amal Alamuddin, got married this Saturday in Venice, Italy at the Hotel Aman Canal Grande in Palazzo Papadopoli. The couple planned to marry in Italy as that is where the couple first met and it holds special memories for them.

The bride, 36, wore a custom-made off-the-shoulder Oscar de la Renta wedding dress made of ivory tulle and appliquéd with fourteen yards of Chantilly lace, its bodice hand embroidered with beading, pearls and crystals, teamed with a cathedral veil. Oscar also made a Gatsby-style party frock in silver with pearl beading and a beaded fringe hem from de la Renta’s fall 2014 collection shorted to thigh-length for the second act of the wedding. George, 53, chose his favourite designer, Giorgio Armani, to create his black tuxedo which he teamed with a white shirt, black bow tie and black leather oxfords. The finishing touches were cufflinks gifted from Amal, with “George” inscribed in Arabic, and a 18K white gold OMEGA De Ville Trésor watch.

People and HELLO! magazine bought the rights to the wedding photos with the money to be donated to an as-yet-unnamed charity. A picture of Amal’s dress fitting with Oscar de la Renta was also taken by famed photographer Annie Leibowitz for US Vogue magazine.

Guests included Matt Damon and his wife Luciana, Cindy Crawford and her husband, George’s best man Rande Gerber, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, Vogue’s Anna Wintour, U2´s Bono and actor Bill Murray.

Following the ceremony, guests were met with champagne and canapes including polenta with wild mushrooms and prosciutto ham with figs, according to a source. They then tucked into a delicious five-course gourmet dinner consisting of lobster, risotto, sea bass, and beef, while listening to music performed by a small string orchestra. Guests were gifted with iPods which held playlists chosen by George and Amal.

This will be the second marriage for George and the first for Amal.

Congratulations!
