The MET ball 2014 – Red carpet action

6 May

At this year´s MET ball the theme is dedicated to the great ‘couturier’ Charles James. The British-American couturier’s work will be celebrated by an exhibition at New York’s Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this year – which kicked off with last night’s Met Ball – but, if Harvey Weinstein has his way, that may not be the last we hear of the label. The Weinstein Company is talking with James’s children about a licensing deal with an option to buy the company and Weinstein is said to have enlisted his wife, Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, and her brother, Edward, as creative consultants.

The four-leaf clover dress is Charles James masterpiece and the Oscar de la Renta design Sarah Jessica Parker has picked is a clear tribute. Other celebrities that decided on Oscar for their dresses include Allison Williams, Amy Adams, Claire Danes, Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift.

The dress code at the MET is part of the excitement of the night, last year the theme was punk and this year it was white tie, although some celebrities didn´t conform.

One detail of the night that stood out was the $1 million of Harry Winston diamonds that supermodel Karolina Kurkova wore with her dress.

We haven´t brought you all the dresses, the designs Rita Ora, Katie Holmes, Amanda Peet, Florence Welch, Alexa Chung, Chrissy Teigen, Kate Upton, Kirsten Dunst, Lena Dunham, Ivanka TrumpChloe Sevigny and Solange Knowles decided on we didn´t like at all, and we´re not really keen on the ones Zoe Saldana, Shailene Woodley, Adriana Lima, Margot RobbieJanelle Monae and Dianna Agron picked either… What do you think?

Our favourites were the simple red Calvin Klein design Anne Hathaway sported, the floaty Gucci dressed Blake Lively wore, the pink two piece by Thankoon Emma Stone picked, the beige number by Vera Wang Joan Smalls decided on, the simple yet elegant blush Ralph Lauren dress Rachel McAdams wore, the pop of colour by Stella McCartney chosen by Reese Witherspoon and the green Prada picked by Sarah Paulson.
